Hypocrits in Science and Science journalism

In an excellent article in the National Post, Lorne Gunther points out the hypocrisy of the Alarmist scientists and the MSM journalists:

"...the rhetoric of global warming and climate change has become even more frenzied since 2006, not less, even to the point where scientists skeptical of the warming theory are being gagged by the Obama administration and the UN.

...Recall that during the Bush years, scientists and environmentalist often claimed that U. S. government research into climate change was being stifled by the Republican administration. Never mind that during the Bush years the United States spent nearly $2-billion a year on climate research, almost all of it on the environmentalists' side, or that the government scientist who most frequently claimed to be censored -- NASA's James Hansen -- gave media interviews and speeches, published academic papers or wrote newspaper articles more than 1,400 times during the Bush administration. There were always journalists ready to regurgitate the insistence of activist scientists that their vital warnings on warming we being squelched, whether they were or not."

BBC abandons 'impartiality' on warming

After part sponsoring a global warming stunt with a mock up polar bear on an ice-berg in the Thames, and doctoring film of President Obama's Inaugural speech,their Newsnight's science editor, Susan Watts, was even more bizarre. It was no more than a paean of gratitude that we now at last have a president prepared to listen to the "science" on climate change, after the dark age of religious obscurantism personified by President Bush.
At last, after years when they could not speak openly on this subject, chirped Ms Watts, "scientists calculate that President Obama has just four years to save the world". She failed to explain (although she was later forced to clarify this on her blog) that the only scientist to say anything so silly was Dr James Hansen of Nasa's Goddard Institute for Space Studies, whose utterances on climate change have lately become so wild and extreme that they have made him a laughing stock. (He was last week publicly disowned by his old boss Dr John Theon, who said that Hansen's unscientific claims had been an embarrassment to Nasa ever since he joined Al Gore in whipping up panic over global warming back in 1988.)"

In Australia, our equivalent ABC uses the same rules, recently excising Bill Kininmonth (William Kininmonth has a career in meteorological science and policy spanning more than 40 years. For more than a decade (1986-1998) he headed Australia's National Climate Centre with responsibilities for monitoring Australia's changing climate and advising the Australian government on the extent and severity of climate extremes) from a podcast and transcript of a broadcast.

Japanese Report Disputes Human Cause for Global Warming

"The Japanese Society of Energy and Resources (JSER) has published a new study on the causes of Global Warming. Entitled, "Global warming: What is the scientific truth?”, the report highlights the differing views of five prominent Japanese scientists.
All but one of the scientists disagreed that global warming is the result of human activity."

I wonder if James Hansen, Al Gore and Penny Wong would call this a consensus?

I say- Ms Wong, Are YOU willing to initiate a CRIPPLING carbon (Dioxide) tax (aka ETS- aka Penny's new HAT [hot air tax])
on an unproven theory which is slowly sliding into oblivion?

James Hansen’s Former NASA Supervisor Declares Himself a Skeptic

"Retired senior NASA atmospheric scientist, Dr. John S. Theon, the former supervisor of James Hansen, NASA’s vocal man-made global warming fear soothsayer, has now publicly declared himself a skeptic and declared that Hansen “embarrassed NASA” with his alarming climate claims and said Hansen was “was never muzzled.” Theon joins the rapidly growing ranks of international scientists abandoning the promotion of man-made global warming fears."

“Hansen was never muzzled even though he violated NASA's official agency position on climate forecasting (i.e., we did not know enough to forecast climate change or mankind's effect on it). Hansen thus embarrassed NASA by coming out with his claims of global warming in 1988 in his testimony before Congress,” Theon wrote."

Another Nail in the AGW coffin.

How the world was bullied into silence

One of the most disturbing aspects of the global warming scam is the number of prominent people and entire segments of society bullied into silence.

He described the case of ex NASA employee Dr. Joanne Simpson (the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology)
who said“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical...The main basis of the claim that man’s release of greenhouse gases is the cause of the warming is based almost entirely upon climate models."

Dr. Ball goes on to mention Jim Hansen's Obama letter of Doom detailed on this site yesterday. http://talbyv.blogspot.com/2009/01/doom-4-years-left-last-chance-jim.html and follows with:

"Hansen must know that if the cooling trend continues, as many scientists anticipate, he is in a dangerous position. When a bureaucrat convinces a politician of a scientific position, as Hansen has so forcefully done with Gore and Obama, and they make it a major part of their political positions he is on a treadmill. He has to keep spinning the story and avoid the facts while increasing the threats. Further, Hansen must make sure political actions he advocates, such as carbon taxes, must be implemented before more cooling occurs and Obama’s four-year term ends. "

Gore will still push because of his trade in carbon credits. Obama, almost freezing at his inauguration might already be changing his mind. Well worth reading from link in title.

DOOM! 4 years left - Last Chance- Jim Hansen

After making doom and gloom predictions for years, (we should all be dead by now) Jim Hansen has made another.

Mark this date - Sunday 18 January 2009.

'We have only four years left to act on climate change - America has to lead' Quote from Hansen.

"(Obama's) four-year administration offers the world a last chance to get things right, Hansen said. If it fails, global disaster - melted sea caps, flooded cities, species extinctions and spreading deserts - awaits mankind."

melted sea caps?? Does this mean melted ice caps when both poles have more ice now than 1980?

Flooded cities?? A paper by Cazenave et al (http://sciences.blogs.liberation.fr/home/files/Cazenave_et_al_GPC_2008.pdf) can be summarised as follows :
since 2003, sea level has continued to rise but with a rate (2.5+/-0.4 mm/yr) somewhat reduced compared to the 1993-2003 decade (3.1+/-0.4mm/yr).

So, at the rate of the latest decade, the rise over a full century would be ~254mm or,even by using the previous decade's rate, over a full century the rise would be ~310mm.

Less than a third of a metre, around one foot in the old currency!

How many cities will be flooded in the next 100 years? Even more importantly, Mr Hansen, how many cities will be flooded in the NEXT FOUR YEARS?

He further adds the problem with pseudo-science tothe future generation:

Hansen’s ideology makes him ‘no longer qualified to be the keeper of the global temperature data’

I am a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society and have just recently retired after a 40 year career as a television meteorologist ... I agree with Joe D’Aleo that it is indeed a sad day for the AMS when the society awards a man whose work has been shown to contain errors (such as proclaiming this past October the warmest October of record when September data was used). I believe Dr. Hansen’s political ideology has taken over his science and renders him no longer qualified to be the keeper of the global temperature data.

Icecap Note: I assure you Craig represents a large percentage of real meteorologosts and climatologists within or no longer members of the AMS. Hansen has become a charicature of himself and has done more harm to the science and through that the world’s people than any other single individual allegedly in the field with the possible exception of Michael Mann.

King Tide and Climate Change

In a disgraceful article in the SMH 10/1/09 a link was made between supposed rise in oceanic waters caused by climate change and the King Tide expected tomorrow(12/1).

Tomorrow's high tide is expected to reach 1.89 metres. Sydney's winter king tide in 1974 reached 2.37 metres. Satellite data have shown world oceans have been FALLING for two years. Last year, the Pasha Bulker was refloated on a hightide of 1.88 metres.

Channel 7 evening news repeated the inference that the King Tide was related to the supposed "climate change."

Why, oh why, don't these journalists check the science before repeating the garbage fed to them by the various climate change offices.

The climate change offices (i.e. political offices) are on the public pad and if they admit the truth that temperatures have been FALLING for 11 years, ocean levels have BEEN falling for two years, public support has also been FALLING, they really would have to shut themselves down.

The sooner we wake up to this disgraceful hoax foisted on us by James Hansen and the discredited IPCC the better our taxation purses will be.
