Trading F...wits

It was in the garden of the Hyatt Regency Coolum Hotel on Queensland's Sunshine Coast after a spirited debate on climate change at the annual Consilium conference of the Centre for Independent Studies.

The sceptic was one of Australia's most successful entrepreneurs, Peter Farrell, founder of ResMed, a company that generates about $1billion a year selling treatments for sleep apnoea.

Farrell believes that while climate change may be real, it's not because of human activity. And he's impatient with people who disagree. He met his match.

“Why is everyone a f---wit except you?” fumed Turnbull, the climate change believer.

Well, everyone but Mr Farrell, more than 33,000 US scientists, members of his own party like Tony Abbott, Nick Minchin, Wilson Tuckey, members of his coalition like Barnaby Joyce and Ron Boswell, like respected Australian scientists such as Professors Carter and Plimer, Bill Kininmonth and the members of the newly formed Climate Sceptics party etc etc

Perhaps Mr Farrell should have replied: "“Why is everyone a f---wit except you?”

STREET theatre and placard-waving protest are not generally the province of Australia's climate sceptics, but they are making an exception for a visit by the former US vice-president Al Gore.

The Climate Sceptics Party, a newly formed group seeking enough members to be a registered political entity, will picket Mr Gore when he addresses a business breakfast in Melbourne on Monday.

Marian Wilkinson has breathed out more hot air. Her article says:
The Peanut Company of Australia is buying new farm properties in the Northern Territory to hedge against south-east Queensland's falling rainfall.

I suppose she meant the SE Queensland had so much rain falling it caused major flooding.

'Act on climate or kill future chances to defraud

From SMH, 17/3/09 in an article without a byline - what no-one would claim credit for this tosh?

"One of the country's top scientists has told politicians to act quickly on climate change or devastate the lives of unborn generations. Penny Sackett, the Government's Chief Scientist, delivered her blunt message to politicians at a dinner at Parliament House on Tuesday night."

So Prof Penny, what was your message?

"Professor Sackett warned the actions of this generation "may deny the next generation the prosperity that we have enjoyed and endanger the lives of millions".

I'm confused. Was it you, Penny, that warned the actions of this generation? Or was it sloppy journalism and it should have read...
Professor Sackett warned this generation that their actions....

"She said slashing carbon emissions now was "the only real future that a baby born today has".

So, how does a baby slash carbon emissions?
What effect will slashing emissions ( presumably you mean Co2 emissions?) have?
Do you, our chief scientist understand that CO2 has been found innocent?
Vostok Ice Core samples have proven that CO2 does not cause globalwarming.

I notice that the report says: "The politicians left midway through Professor Sackett's speech.."

Rudd lies again in Parliament

In Today's SMH, Columnist Paul Sheehan suggests Mr Kevin747 is preparing for an early election trigger with his politically based $42 billion Nation Building and Jobs Plan.
Paul mentions that former Labor leader Mark Latham observed last week

"They have jumped all over the financial crisis, not with a clear economic strategy in mind, but with an urgent sense of the political opportunity it presents."

Paul goes on to say:
Above all, an early election would buy Rudd time to deal with the disconnect between his rhetoric and his performance, such as this lightning bolt delivered last Tuesday: "Australia is in a stronger position than these countries because the Government built a strong surplus last year as a buffer for tough times."

This is blandly recorded in Hansard without a hint of what was going on in the chamber. It was noisy. Not from interjections, but from laughter. The opposition was laughing at the Prime Minister's gall.

His government had not "built" a $20 billion budget surplus; it had inherited one, part of a massive $90 billion financial firewall left behind by the Coalition government. Within the Rudd Government's first full fiscal year, that budget surplus would be gone.

It had taken 11 years for the Howard-Costello government to unwind the $96 billion federal debt left behind by Labor in 1996. It had taken 11 months for the Rudd Government to commit to debt on the same scale.

Obviously, Mr KRudd is either suffering from delusions or is aware of the lies he is perpetrating.
